Have you ever bought something that led to a complete overhaul of a room?! A couple of weeks ago I received these metal and wire farmhouse shelves. I wasn’t sure where I was going to put them when I picked them out but I knew I had to have them! When they arrived I decided our master bathroom was the perfect place for them. However, the bathroom needed a lot of help! We hadn’t touched it since we moved in, back in September, and the countertops were RED. I wanted a quick, budget friendly fix because we plan to remodel this bathroom when we add on next year anyway. I decided to paint the counters. It was a quick, easy weekend project that cost less than $80!
I ordered the Giani Countertop Paint Kit in Sicilian Sand. After watching the how-to video, my husband decided we should rip off the old backsplash. I don’t even know how to describe it. It was just a thin piece of red laminate with silver trim. It would’ve been really hard to paint. So in one weekend I painted the counters and the next he installed the subway tiles. Subway tiles are classic farmhouse, plus they are super budget friendly! These were only about 21 cents each. The only thing I don’t like is the grout color we chose. I wish it was gray or a lighter beige. I’m going to see if this grows on me and if not, I’m going to paint the grout. If you look really close, we messed up the caulking in a few spots as well so we need to fix that.
So about the wonderful shelves that led to a two weekend project…
I found them while scouring Wikibuy for good farmhouse deals! Wikibuy is a website and Chrome extension that finds you the best deals across the web on products you love! I searched for metal farmhouse shelves and they matched me to a great deal on these beauties from Amazon.
I added some dried flowers and apothecary bottles from Hobby Lobby to the top. The bottom bottles were donated from my mother-in-law’s collection of antique bottles and I used it to store extra hand towels and bath brush. I’m pretty obsessed with how it turned out! They are definitely my favorite thing in my new bathroom.
We also took out our old towel bar and added this wall hook unit. The towel bar wasn’t very functional since it was so far away from the shower and sink.
We updated the light above my vanity and both mirrors a few months ago but just replaced the knobs and faucet to match. Both were inexpensive and totally change the look! I wish we had done it sooner. We went with brushed nickel for the finishes, even though oil-rubbed bronze is popular for the farmhouse look. I wanted a lighter feel in here.
A new shower curtain and a few farmhouse decor touches like the tobacco basket and I love it! We spent less than $300 and it totally feels like a new bathroom. So far the painted counters are holding up fine. It was an inexpensive fix but turned out great. Would you like to see a step-by-step post on the countertop paint?
