To me farmhouse style is warm, cozy and inviting. It takes me back to simpler times. It includes a mixture of old and new (or new things that look old!). Farmhouse style tends to include a lot of neutral colors. While I love it for the rest of our house I wanted my daughter’s room to include some brighter colors. I made sure to include lots of pink, her favorite! Decorating my daughter’s room has been one of my favorite projects. Read on for 3 simple ways to add farmhouse style to a child’s bedroom.
Most of the furniture in here is new. I just recently got into looking for antique pieces. But even new pieces can put off an antique vibe. Metal beds are an easy way to add farmhouse style to a child’s room. Parker’s Jenny Lind Metal Bed was the basis for this whole room. She already had a white dresser so I added a white bookcase with pretty details and an old rattan/wicker table that my mother-in-law was getting rid of. To me farmhouse style is easy and laid back. It’s best when the furniture doesn’t match. Adding different textures with metals and wood is great too.
I found my daughter’s bedding at Target. The Simply Shabby Chic line is perfect for adding a vintage touch to any bedroom! The sheets have the sweetest floral print. When looking for bedding look for crochets, linens, stripes, or soft florals. Then layer on a quilt or your child’s favorite blanket. The blanket on Parker’s bed was mine as a child so it’s extra special. Like I mentioned above farmhouse style tends to include a lot of whites, creams, and gray. Pick a muted color for the main bedding and add pops of color in pillows. Lucky for me Parker hasn’t shown any interest in character bedding yet!
This is the fun part! Farmhouse style includes a lot of natural elements. I made sure to include florals and pops of greens around the room and in the artwork. I also added several storage pieces made from metal and wood. The two tier stand is from one of my favorite farmhouse retailers – Decor Steals! The little basket holding her favorite stuffed animals is from Hobby Lobby. This is the exact 4-Cubby Wall Shelf we have. It’s a great price on Amazon! It’s perfect for holding toddler shoes, hair accessories and jewelry.
I gave her IKEA play kitchen a little farmhouse makeover by attaching a foam board with faux wood poster paper attached. It makes such a cute backsplash! I added the Fresh Baked Pies sign for a whimsical feel.
Since this is a 3 year old’s room I wanted to keep it fun, while still keeping the farmhouse look. The pink house cubes and lamp add a young feel.
Parker’s room is one of my favorites in our house. I love the mix of farmhouse and child-like whimsy. I know she loves it too! What’s your favorite part of her room? If there’s something I didn’t link that you would like to know about shoot me a message!
